Little Cedar Cattle Company is a breeder of Shorthorn and Angus cattle in central Michigan. Owners Steve and Julie French work together each day in management and marketing of their seedstock operation, guided by lifetime experience in cattle breeding and an avid study of breed history.
Steve discovered Shorthorns at age 12 while on a family vacation and soon became enamored of the reds, whites, and roans. With his parents’ financial support, he bought his first heifer and began learning about the breed on his own. At the same time Steve was learning about Shorthorns, Julie’s cattle background began in the Angus breed. She grew up through junior activities on her family’s Belle Point Ranch in Arkansas, serving on the first board of directors of the National Junior Angus Association.
Steve is also a broker of plastics raw materials; his “plastics pedigree” stems back to his maternal grandfather, one of the pioneers of the plastics industry. In 2001, Julie moved her promotional strategies business from Fort Worth to Beaverton and works primarily for LCCC and Belle Point along with consulting on special projects for several clients.
Steve and Julie work together to manage and produce “The Great Shorthorn Revival” in September and “The Springtime Revival” in April. The focus of these leading consignment sales is on creating opportunities for consignors and buyers to establish relationships and exchange valuable genetics and exceptional live cattle.
Additionally, they contribute to the daily management of Belle Point Ranch. They collaborate with the family business and ranch management teams, select cattle from national level auctions, determine AI matings, and plan and execute the annual sale.
